Members of the Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club (SBECO) teamed up with community volunteers to plant 25 native trees at the San Elijo Lagoon Reserve, guided by park rangers. This initiative aligns perfectly with SBECO's mission to collaborate with the community on environmental solutions. It benefits our local parks and serves as an outreach tool to engage others in the community who are passionate about service and environmental improvement.
A grove of Sycamores and Cottonwoods was planted along a boardwalk. These trees will not only provide a cool, green, shady retreat in the summer and a vibrant tunnel of orange and yellow leaves in the fall but also enhance biodiversity by creating habitats within the local ecosystem and bolstering our community's resilience to climate change. The aspiration is for Green Friday to become an annual tradition, not only for SBECO but for other clubs too. Park services organize year-round events for tree planting, trash removal, and the eradication of invasive species, and they look forward to continued collaboration with Rotary members.
