About DMCC

The Rotary 5340 District Military Coordinating Committee (DMCC) is proud to be sponsoring “Operation Flags for Vets” at Miramar National Cemetery on Memorial Day weekend. In cooperation with the cemetery administration, members of Rotary District 5340 will be placing a small American flag at every gravesite to honor our fallen heroes. This effort is one that the cemetery has no funding or personnel to complete so they are excited to welcome Rotary to what will be a long-term commitment.

FAQs

Can you send a group from your club? Yes! If your club would like to send a group of people, pick a coordinator, and list the participants in the information block on the form. Look for an email week of May 20th providing details you’ll need to know.  This will include a map of the cemetery, your section assignment, information about parking, and any other pertinent data.

Parking: There is plenty of parking at the cemetery, but we are encouraging carpooling on the day of the event.

Cost: There is no cost for this event! However, since we have committed to conducting it every year, we have arranged for the ability to donate. This would be a great way to participate if you can’t attend. We would appreciate your donation to help start funding to honor the additional 3,000 gravesites that are added annually at Miramar National Cemetery. This means more flag purchases, supplies, and offsite parking transportation as the number of volunteers increase.
ABOUT DMCC
Rotary District 5340 has always had a strong and proud relationship with the local military community. Given the large presence of active duty, reserve, veteran and retired personnel and their families in our midst, it is only natural that as a service organization we would embrace them. Rotary can be found promoting local military events, building, and improving facilities on installations, conducting food drives for families, and supporting a wide array of events in the area.

In February 2024 Rick Clark, one of the members of the DMCC, proposed a project called “Operation Flags for Vets” that involved placing an American flag a every gravesite in Miramar National Cemetery on Memorial Day, 2024. This is one of the many interviews Rick gave regarding Operation Flags for Vets.

DMCC MISSION STATEMENT

The District Military Coordination Committee (DMCC) has been established with the purpose of coordinating, supporting, and aiding the San Diego Military community, encompassing active duty personnel, retirees, veterans, and their families. The DMCC will provide a centralized clearinghouse for District 5340 Rotary club sponsored projects and events impacting the local military community. This clearinghouse will serve to document projects, incentivize expanded activities, provide a model for others to emulate, and offer volunteer opportunities for other clubs in the District.

Beyond the immediate military community, the DMCC extends its assistance to veterans and organizations dedicated to supporting veterans, families, and survivors. A key objective is to heighten awareness within the civilian community regarding the specific needs, issues, and events affecting veterans.

By coordinating upcoming, ongoing events and resources our goal is to create partnerships with community and business leaders, as well as collaborate with other organizations and government departments. By leveraging the collective strength of the community, our aim is to provide unwavering support to veterans facing challenges and address their needs effectively.
