Leadership, Ethics, and Determination (LEAD) is a two day conference held at SDCOE Cuyamaca Retreat Center where 8th grade participants are encouraged to discuss issues of ethical responsibility, improve leadership and communication skills, and develop a positive outlook on life. A local school bus company with all required DOT and local certifications transports the students.

The LEAD conference is led by four acclaimed youth motivational speakers. Rotarians, with experience inspiring young leaders, help facilitate the activities. There are interactive workshop sessions on exceeding your limits, making ethical choices, service to others, setting and reaching goals, and perfecting leadership skills. Students also enjoy outdoor events, and meet new friends through entertaining fellowship and teambuilding activities.

LEAD participants must be 8th grade students at the time of the camp and must reside within San Diego or Imperial Counties. Students are nominated by their middle school counselors to participate based upon service activities, leadership experience, future potential for leadership, ability to collaborate with others, and academics (there is no minimum GPA requirement). The LEAD committee contacts the parent(s) or guardian(s) of each nominated student to determine if they wish their student to attend and assist them with the online registration.
