Rotary Camp Enterprise is an activity-packed, annual three-day workshop sponsored by the San Diego Rotary Club. Based on a program developed by the American Management Association, this all expenses paid experience provides a select group of eleventh-grade students with a series of panels, presentations, and group discussions that present a broad view and an exploration of the free enterprise system by working in a team to create their own business plan. These plans include Mission, Marketing, Management, and Money elements for a business. Students must also include the Rotary 4-way test in their plans. Club Rotarians and SDSU Rotaractors assist students with planning and preparation, but do not advise the students on the details of their chosen product and business plan. Rather, students learn teambuilding, collaboration, career awareness and the give and take process of business by doing rather than being instructed on creating the best plan. Each team presents their final plan to a team of professional investment judges. Every student is required to orally present a part of the plan before the panel and audience. Since 1976, Rotary Camp Enterprise has provided over 3,200 students the opportunity to learn from some of San Diego's top business leaders in a fun and educational environment. Students need not have a 4.0 grade average. Camp Enterprise is for students who would benefit from, or be motivated by, an introduction to the business world outside of school and are in the upper 25 percent of their 11th grade class. High school counselors select the students whom they believe would benefit and the total number of students is up to 90 each year. Students are transported to and from camp via a greyhound bus transportation company. Students stay overnight for 2 nights with all meals, snacks and materials provided. A medical doctor is present during the entire camp experience. Parents are required to sign a waiver form to confirm their attendance at camp.
