Last weekend in Del Mar, Rotary District 5340 proudly hosted its annual Model United Nations, welcoming students from across San Diego County as well as international participants from Costa Rica for an inspiring weekend of leadership, diplomacy, and global learning.

Throughout the event, students tackled important world issues with thoughtfulness and courage, including threats against journalists and the global impact of drug trafficking. It was powerful to watch these young leaders engage in serious dialogue with compassion, intelligence, and a clear commitment to building a better world.

The weekend was made even more special by the presence of several distinguished guests. We were honored to welcome District Governor Nyron McLean of District 5330 as a special guest, along with District Governor Elect Jeb Bakke of District 5340. Our own District Governor Luis Carranza of District 5340 also addressed the opening session, helping set the tone for a meaningful and memorable weekend.

A heartfelt thank you goes to co chairs Isaac Jackson and Klaus Gubernator, volunteer Kevin Kahoe, and the many others whose dedication, time, and care made this remarkable event possible.

Model United Nations continues to reflect the very best of Rotary by empowering young people to lead with purpose, understanding, and hope. In a world that urgently needs thoughtful leadership, this program reminds us that the next generation is already rising to meet the moment.
