The Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club maintains a cherished partnership with the picturesque San Dieguito County Park. They convene on the third Sunday of each month to tend to the park through planting, weeding, and general maintenance. Biannually, they host a booth at the Environmental Festivals. The October 13 event drew nearly 500 attendees to an educational workshop on nature and local environmental groups. This autumn, with Halloween approaching, the emphasis was on soil rejuvenation through decay (akin to compost's 'zombie' nature) and biodiversity, showcasing bats, various insects, and snakes. The festival featured child-friendly activities such as live reptile displays, owls and hawks, face painting, and costume parades. Their booth offered four interactive stations: educating children on plastic pollution solutions, worm composting, the importance of trees, and promoting their free-to-borrow reusable dinnerware sets to minimize waste. Additionally, two zero-waste stations managed to divert 96% of the event's waste. The event also served as an excellent opportunity for recruitment and enjoyment for everyone involved.
