The Rotary Club of Santee -Lakeside is proud to announce that The San Diego Council on Literacy was one of their District Grant recipients this year. They have been helping our community since 1986, serving 100,000 residents annually. Their CEO, Jose Cruz, shared that 47% of students in grades 3-11 in San Diego County are not meeting grade levels standards, typically because of a resource gap. Early learning is critical. Both language rich environments and being read aloud to can help young children develop a love of reading.

Their grant of $250 will provide 10 children with one book per month for a year through their affiliation with the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Pittsburg Co. You can get more information on this organization at https://www.literacysandiego.org/.
