Powegians Don’t Let It Rain on Their Parade!

Did you know that the Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps selects its parade date nearly one year in advance? The chosen date is usually guaranteed to be the hottest day of the year so you can imagine the Plan B arrangements that were put in place just in case it rained Sept. 10, which was parade date.

Fortunately, the rain held, the folks turned out, the bands marched, and the floats floated under their own power. By lunchtime, the 57th Poway Rotary Parade was history.

This year’s parade once again was generously underwritten by Palomar Health as its title sponsor. Business and community support is what makes the annual parade possible.  The generous time of volunteers is appreciated, especially those who serve as judges who scrutinize all who make their way down the parade routes. This year, awards were presented to:
  • Rotary Service Award: NJROTC
  • Mayor’s Award: Poway Rodeo + Sam's Posse
  • Best in Theme "We are Family!": St. Gabriel's
  • Best Marching Band: Poway High School Emerald Brigade
  • Most Unique Pet [Pet Parade] - Poway 4-H
  • Best Float + Pet [Pet Parade] - Bailey
  • Best Dressed Pet [Pet Parade] – Buddy
This year’s parade grand marshal was former San Diego Charger Cory Withrow, who was an offensive lineman with the team 2006-2008. The parade was live streamed and can be found by following this link:  https://www.facebook.com/powayrotary/videos.
