The Peace Pole Dedication Ceremony will be held at Balboa Park, near the International Houses, on Wednesday Aril 27th, 2022 at 9:00 AM. Representatives from the City of San Diego, Rotary District 5340 Governor Dan Gensler, and members from both San Diego Rotary Clubs will be in attendance. “In Rotary, we constantly look to get involved in projects that represent our mission, which includes promoting Peace. We aim to deliver a message of peace and unity, and we believe that in these challenging times, it would be significant to place a symbol of peace in Balboa Park, one of the most emblematic locations of San Diego.

The past two years have seen a dramatic increase in violent crimes, aggression, war, oppression and conflict around the world. During these challenging times, it’s easy to forget that peace is a shared human value towards which people from all cultures aspire. To this end, two San Diego Rotary clubs have joined together to dedicate a Peace Pole at Balboa Park that will serve as a critical reminder of the role that all of us play in cultivating peace on Earth. Located near the International Houses, the peace pole symbolically states “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in 12 languages.

Inspired by the International Peace Pole project, the Balboa Park Peace Pole will join Peace poles in more than 180 countries that carry this same message. Other notable locations for Peace Poles include the North Magnetic Pole, Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Egyptian Pyramids in Giza, and the Aiki Shrine in Iwama, Japan.
