Crawford Colts Thrift Store became a reality as part of Rotarians at Work Day this year. La Mesa Sunrise Rotarian Elena Lujan-Alba teaches at Crawford and responded to a student suggestion that one of the shipping containers on campus be converted to a student thrift store. She shared the idea with the La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club and the project took off. The LMSRC organized a conversion event and were joined by The El Cajon Sunset and La Mesa Noon Rotary Clubs. Rotarians and students came out to paint, sort, saw, clean and support this joint effort. Elena's daughter designed the mural, students and Rotarians painted it. The day before, Rotarian Ron Rice painted the entire container inside and out. The shipping container was fitted with clothing racks, and Rotarians sorted donated clothing and hung it all on hangers. Next up: the planning of a grand opening.
