The District Environmental Sustainability (DES) Committee,  created a few months ago with a mission to educate and support projects that protect our environment, meets regularly and all clubs are invited to be part of the discussion. If you feel like representing your club and/or would like to start a club committee dedicated to the Rotary Seventh Area of Focus, please join us on Monday September 14th at 6:30 p.m. for our next meeting.

We will discuss our plan for the next few years. By being part of the committee, you will be informed of the different speakers that we host, projects that we want to implement, and you can suggest actions that we can take on to make a positive impact in our community. Please register here to join the zoom meeting.   After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

For this month, the District Environmental Sustainability Committee is pleased to partner with the Solana Beach Eco Rotary Club to host a presentation on environmental education for and by youth students of the BCK Programs on Tuesday September 22, at 6:30 p.m.

Educating and engaging students and residents about important environmental issues has changed dramatically with COVID-19’s emergence.  The traditional methods of school assemblies and presentations are no longer available.  Beach cleanup events, information booths, any activity bringing people together to help improve our environment have ended.  However, the need for environmental education and engagement has not ceased.  It must now be done at a distance. BCK Programs has helped bridge this divide with Earth Smart Actions.  A website that educates and engages residents to take action at their homes and in their neighborhoods.  You will hear from Amy Wilson, a BCK Instructor and several students who have accomplished meaningful changes at home and in their neighborhood. You will be provided a link to these actions so you too can make meaningful environmental contributions.

Register in advance for this meeting.   After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.  For additional information or question, please contact Amelie Catheline at amelie.catheline@gmail.com
