A much-needed paint job and sports court refurbishment were given to Ensenada Benito Juarez Elementary School by our own La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club on October 7-8, 2023. Led by past president Ron Kohl, a veteran organizer of cross-border project trips, the efforts of over 100 people painted ten school buildings and installed basketball backboards, new rims, and new sports nets.
Ron Kohl and the leadership team, Tony Grillo, Ranjan Lahiri, and Garry Kachkovsky geared up with a pre-project visit, budget calculations, and arranged for Baja fellowship and fun! 52 Rotarians and guests, arriving by a chartered bus, were joined by the Rotary Club of Ensenada Todos Santos, Ensenada Interact students, Rotarians from Tijuana, and over two dozen college students from SDSU and UCSD Rotaract Clubs! We also had school parents, teachers, and children help paint the buildings.
The La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotarians and Rotaract Students donated over 100 stuffed toys to present to the children at the school. The children each carried their new toys close to them the whole day, even while painting!
Following the project, a delicious paella dinner was provided by the Ensenada Todos Santos Rotary Club at Chateau Camou Winery in Guadalupe Valley. Early Sunday morning, Rotary Surfers Unite leader Brett Morey took Rotaract Students surfing.
So great to bless others down in Ensenada once again. Who wants to join us next October? For more information about our club or to join us on a future project, email info@lajollagtrotary.org or check out our website https://lajollagtrotary.org.
