On Saturday, May 22, Rotarians from the Santee-Lakeside Rotary Club showed up bright and early at the East County Transitional Care Center (homeless shelter open to families who want to have long-sustaining sobriety and a relationship with God) located in El Cajon.

Club members helped beautify the center's playground with pulling weeds, hedge trimming and landscape management.  The highlight of the day was the interaction between Rotarians and residents of the facility.  Much can be said for personal story sharing and mutual respect for those who have been down on their luck or fighting addiction battles.

The Santee-Lakeside Rotary club is involved in supporting the East County Transitional Center with not only landscape management but also with grants for various projects.   In addition, the club sponsors a "Give a Sheet" toilet paper drive each year.  Give a Sheet is the club's service project culminating at the annual  installation event at the end of June when Rotarians fill the stage with reams of toilet paper.   One can only imagine how much toilet paper the center goes through in a year's time.
