Leadership Ethics Aspiration and Determination

The LEAD (Leadership, Ethics, Aspiration and Determination) Conference is a leadership and personal development program for 8th grade middle school students. Talented young people attend a two day camp developed and presented by the Rotarians of Rotary International District 5340. All expenses are paid by the Rotary Clubs of District 5340.

LEADLEAD encourages young people to discuss issues of ethical responsibility, improve leadership and communication skills, and develop a positive outlook on life, while having fun and making friends. LEAD provides the opportunity for young people to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers and adult community leaders. For Rotarians, LEAD offers the chance to share their love of service, help develop a new generation of leaders, provide valuable expertise, and bridge the gap between generations.

LEAD has the following objectives:

  • To demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth

  • To encourage and assist young leaders in becoming responsible and effective servant leaders

  • To promote continued and stronger leadership of youth by youth

  • To help young people develop skills to be successful in life

  • To give young people tools to enable them to make ethical decisions

  • To publicly recognize the high qualities of young people who are rendering service to their communities as youth leaders

  • To encourage students to participate in Rotary sponsored high school activities such as Interact (a high school service club) and Youth Exchange (explore cultures through international travel)
