Youth Protection

Every year, Rotary members do a significant amount of work with young people in the community. Many Youth Service programs have become hallmarks of Rotary, including Rotary Youth Exchange, RYLA, Rotaract, Interact, the 4 Way Test Speech Contest, reading to students, and mentoring. Each of these programs elevates our communities by helping kids and young adults grow and prosper in a nurturing environment.
Unfortunately, youth are often the target of abuse and harassment, including emotional or verbal abuse, physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, and sexual harassment.
District 5340 is committed to creating and maintaining the safest possible environment for all participants in Rotary Activities.  It is the duty of each Rotarian, Rotarian spouse or partner, or other Volunteer to safeguard, to the best of their ability, the welfare of and to prevent the abuse and harassment of children and young people with whom they come into contact.
It is absolutely vital that each and every Rotary club protect the interests of everyone involved, and create and maintain a safe and respectful environment for all participants in Rotary activities. Fulfilling this duty safeguards the interests of Rotary Clubs and Rotarians by minimizing their risk of liability, including legal liability, should any participant in a Rotary activity become a victim of abuse.
To help safeguard our youth, District 5340 has adopted a Youth Certification (YC) program that all members of Rotary are encouraged to achieve. Learn more about Youth Certification program, and how you can achieve the YC designation.
