In May 2017, Brett Morey, Past President of the Rotary Club of La Jolla Golden Triangle and Rotary District 5340 Youth Service Chair set out to start a new Rotary Fellowship just weeks before the Rotary International Convention in Atlanta.  With the encouragement and support of District Governor Scott Carr and fellow Rotarians Brett boarded a flight to Atlanta with one of his 16 surfboards and hit the ground running.  While at his second Rotary International Convention he gathered over 150 signatures from numerous countries and built an incredible leadership team of Rotarians and Rotaractors from Australia, Hawaii, throughout the U.S.  Surfers Unite has since completed over 15 service projects, gained final approval from Rotary International and now has over 300 members in over 20 countries.

This Saturday, January 27th over a dozen Surfers Unite members will be participating in the 3rd Annual 1 Wave Challenge and 5K Beach Run raising money for the Boys to Men Mentoring Foundation 501 (c)3.  Boys to Men Mentoring serves over 800 Middle School and High School teenage boys throughout San Diego County growing up without a positive male role models in their lives.  Surfers Unite members from Orange County and San Diego will join over 150 surfers at La Jolla Shores Saturday to beat a Guinness World Record for number of surfers on one wave previously set in South Africa back in 2009.  Others including a dozen UCSD Rotaract students will assist as volunteers including fellow Rotarians from Carlsbad and other clubs.  Support the SURF team with their current fundraising efforts by clicking here.
