Tanya Pulley, a member of the Pacific Beach Rotaract Club is doing a ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles in support of HIV/AIDS patients. It was just three months ago that Tanya purchased her first fixed gear bicycle. This is a bicycle that is absent of gears and doesn't allow you to stop pedaling. According to Tanya, it is a beautiful experience feeling one with t he bicycle and the road and an even greater one for the cause. Tanya heard some whispers of a team that would ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles, a 545 mile journey, on a fixed gear bicycle to raise money for a much needed cause and she decided to be part of it. With the purchase of the bike, she was able to join the Team Cretins of the AIDS/LifeCycle.
The AIDS/LifeCycle is a life changing experience, serving as one of the largest single HIV/AIDS fundraisers in the world. This ride provides an opportunity for people within the community to start a dialog and get involved, while providing over 70% of all money raised going directly to the patients. last year, the event raised over $15.1 million for critical HIV/AIDS services provided by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LBGT Center services. The funding from the ride provides resources to expand critical services in need.
The fight against HIV isn't over, so Tanya pledged to raise $10,000 to fund life-saving services. She is going to push her body through climbs of just under 25,000 feet for a week to prevent others from suffering alone. This efforts gives Rotarians in District 5340 an opportunity to help out one very dynamic Rotoractor do something amazingly special. Tanya is looking for donations to help her achieve her goal.
