On Tuesday March 10th, Old Mission Rotary hosted a sub-regional round of District 5340's Four Way Test Speech Contest.

All four participants were exceptional and did extremely well incorporating the Four Way Test into their presentations.

The winner was Alexander Palma who is a sophomore at Hoover High School. He spoke about the expectations put upon men and how this can lead to isolation, depression and even suicide. He was sponsored by Club 33.

Second place was Venus Nuño from Hoover High School. The theme of her speech was "Disabilities do not define the individual." She was sponsored by club 33.

There were two other finalists:

Layla Morales is a senior at Calipatria High School and was sponsored by the Brawley Club. She described how her experiences in Cheerleading Competition helped to prepare her for life and leadership roles as she transformed fear into confidence.

Lya Silva is junior at Grossmont High School and applied the Four Way Test to why books are banned. She challenged us to allow all literature to be available to youth as a way to find themselves.

Alexander Palma and Venus Nuño will be participating in the next Regional Round of the contest. Alexander received a check for $200 and Venus received a check for $150.
