Celebrating 119 Years of Rotary: A Global Legacy of Service
This February marks the 119th anniversary of Rotary International, a testament to its enduring commitment to service and fellowship. Founded February 23, 1905, Rotary has grown into a global force for good, with over 46,000 clubs, both Rotary and Rotaract, spanning 200 countries. From eradicating polio to promoting peace, Rotary's impact knows no bounds.
One of Rotary's most celebrated traditions is the "Sun Never Sets on Rotary," an online relay event commemorating the 119 years of Rotary. Rotarians from several countries are participating by showcasing their projects, symbolizing its global reach and the continuous work undertaken by Rotarians around the clock.
The last Zoom event featuring Scotland ended yesterday morning at 6 am. The event was a 50-minute review of the activities and projects in District 1320 - South Scotland, home club of the late Gordon McInally's (Past RI president). If you search YouTube, you should find this event along with several others from across the globe.
An interesting nugget that I came away with was that the wife of Paul Harris, Jane Harris, was born in Edinburgh Scotland and is buried there.
As we celebrate this milestone, let's reaffirm our dedication to service and continue shining the light of hope worldwide. Let us Create Hope in the World.
Happy Birthday Rotary!
