Rotarians from La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club

Each year, the “Christmas Train” of about 40 San Diegans (including 4-8 from La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club),
goes down to Tecate.  In the Tecate soccer stadium, there are 3,500 to 5,000 little kids, holding mother’s hand.

One activity is to ride like the Three Kings (Melchior, Caspar and Balthazar) on camels. Clowns, brought down by our own
Pokonose el payaso, circulate in the stands handing out stickers, balloons, etc.  Our Rotarians hand out the
Gift bags (fruit, school supplies, games, clothing, etc.), pink for girls, blue for boys. The bags also contain other items such as
popular Mardi Gras necklaces (even the boys want them).  There is professional entertainment on stage
(dancing, song, etc.).

The Governor of Baja said that it is the best activity of the year for their children.  One year it won the George Washington Medal from the Freedom Foundation (Valley Forge) as the best transnational program.  Security is by the National Hispanic Officers
Foundation, SD chapter of 15 officers, men and women, in street clothes.  La Mesa Sunrise Rotary Club also supports the Christmas Train financially each year.
