The Rotary Club of Sweetwater San Diego is proud to celebrate a powerful and deeply meaningful milestone: the successful partnership and implementation of Global Grant GG2466475 with our sister club, the Rotary e Club of Bulacan True North, District 3770 in the Philippines.

In the farming community of Barangay Telapatio, rice farmers have spent generations battling low yields — often just 40 cavans per hectare — a number so small it kept families locked in debt, hardship, and uncertainty.
Today, that story has changed.

Thirteen farmer partners have just celebrated a breakthrough harvest, doubling their yields through a sustainable, precision farming program made possible by this Global Grant. This isn’t just a better harvest — it’s a turning point. It’s proof that science-based farming, paired with Rotary’s commitment to community empowerment, can transform entire livelihoods.

By shifting from traditional methods to soil analysis, precision fertilization, and modern agricultural practices, farmers are now producing nearly twice as much as before. With higher yields and stronger financial footing, they’ve organized themselves into Rotary Community Corps (RCCs), becoming self managed business units no longer dependent on high interest informal lenders.

But the grant’s impact goes beyond crops and cavans. It invests in people — offering values based leadership training that strengthens farmers as community leaders, parents, and partners in progress.

During a recent visit to the project site in Barangay Telapatio, Secretary Romeo Villanueva and Past President Veronic Villanueva were warmly welcomed by members of the Rotary e Club of Bulacan True North and the farmer partners whose lives are being reshaped by this initiative. In a touching gesture of gratitude, PN Jun Lim presented a handcrafted artwork titled “The Stages of Life,” created by persons deprived of liberty — a symbol of resilience, hope, and shared humanity.

Secretary Romeo also shared the success of RC Sweetwater’s ongoing Micro Lending Project in San Rafael, Bulacan, located near the Global Grant site. He extended an open invitation to community members to access this support for their agricultural and livelihood needs — further strengthening Rotary’s commitment to sustainable, community driven development.

This partnership is more than a project.
It is a model.
It is a promise.
And it is a powerful reminder of what Rotary can achieve when compassion meets collaboration.
