Recently, Past District Governor Steve Weitzen was able to deliver a much deserved People of Action award to Fernanda Torres of the San Diego Coastal Rotary Club. Most people know Fernanda as a hard worker, developing our international MUN program over many years. Over the last year and a half, Fernanda has been extremely busy helping her local community in Tijuana.

Among other achievements, she has delivered food to hard hit poor communities during the worst days of the pandemic. She has also delivered thousands of pieces of personal protective equipment to hospitals, clinics and first responders over many months. She has done this at significant risk to her own health and safety  - a shining example of Service Above Self.

Fernanda designed, built and installed a beautiful 15 foot peace pole in a new park in the Natura Community as Peace Chair of her club.  She is also working on a new training program with the Institute of Economics and Peace.

Fernanda is co-chairing the Latin American Peace Symposium. She is on the board of the Boys and Girls Club in Tijuana and was San Diego Coastal Rotary Club's Rotarian of the Year in 2020. She is also the bi-national liaison for Districts 5340-4100 and is helping to forge a new partnership for future projects together in the area.  If that isn't enough, Fernanda agreed to be the  San Diego Coastal Rotary Club's International Chair and has more plans to do good work.

Great job, Fernanda!
