Rotarians from the Santee-Lakeside Rotary club joined Rotarians in Ensenada to provide food, blankets, and clothing to over 500 families this past Sunday.  Throughout the day, there were interactive games and activities for all the children as well as educational classes for the parents.  According to Elana-Levens-Craig who coordinated efforts on the US side, recipients were extraordinarily grateful.  "I can't describe the feeling of being around so many good people who give back to their community and embody the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self," wrote Levens-Craig on her Facebook page.   Several Rotary clubs in East County helped raise money and provided candy for the celebratory piñatas.   The day's events were planned by the Rotary Club of Ensenada.

This collaboration was a spin-off of a joint meeting between representatives of both the Santee-Lakeside Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Ensenada regarding another project - Rancho Santa Marta, whose programs are a  home for homeless, orphaned or abused children and a kindergarten, elementary and junior high schools with a special education mainstreaming program for children with learning disabilities.  The Santee-Lakeside Rotary Club has supported Rancho Santa Marta for a number of years; most recently, building a computer lab for the school's junior high.  Levens-Craig was so moved by the interaction between the two clubs that she wanted to do a joint project.  Her enthusiasm yielded positive results, not only with her own club but other local clubs who donated cash and candy to help make this event a success.    One thing is for sure....there will be more collaboration between these two clubs.
