In the wake of the devastation suffered by Puerto Rico as a result of Hurricane Maria, the REPAIR Puerto Rico Committee of the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club is dedicating their efforts to raising funds to help the island and its people to meet their immediate needs (drinking water, food, clothing, shelter, medicines and medical care).

The magnitude of the disaster is not well understood as yet. However, it is clear that the island’s infrastructure has been seriously affected leaving the entire island without running water, sewer service, phone lines, cell phone towers, or electricity. Entire towns and communities were flooded, bridges and roads destroyed, livestock drowned, and all perishable foods lost. Five weeks after the hurricane and despite all efforts by local and federal government, about 30% of households still do not have running water, less than 14% have electricity, 20% of gasoline stations remain closed, 40% have no phone service, half of all banks are closed, and over 30% of hospitals have no electricity. Many families had their homes destroyed and are living in shelters. The needs are clear and the urgency is manifest.

If you can, please plan to attend the concert the committee is holding on Sunday, November 12 to benefit victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.  The concert will feature the Classic Brass and the Quartetto Sorrento. Everyone will enjoy popular, classical and Puerto Rican music. There will be a live auction, reception, Puerto Rican hors d’oeuvres, and a cash bar (wine and Malahat rum Puerto Rican cocktails).
