For no apparent reason, there were a number of special guests at the La Jolla Rotary Club's December 12 meeting, including District Governor, Scott Carr.  No one asked about the high attendance that day, but half-way through the club's President's time, it became evident.   Past President, Bill Burch called Rotarian, Penny Shurtleff to the front to help him unveil a San Diego County Proclamation.  Little did Penny know that the proclamation listed many of her accomplishment during her 30 years in Rotary, and proclaimed the day "Penny Shurtleff Day" throughout San Diego County.   Most notable among the multiple "whereas" phrases, included Penny being the first woman to join the Santa Rosa Rotary in 1987, and her spearheading the La Jolla Rotary Club's Senior Citizens Committee from 2003 to present.  With the room on its feet in applause, and tears on her husband, Gordon's cheeks, Burch told Penny that Gordon is nuts about her and that the club loves and respects her deeply.

Congratulations is extended to Rotarian Penny Shurtleff on her many accomplishments and this very public recognition of her efforts.
