'Tis the season for ringing in the holidays. Across our District, many clubs are hosting parties in both private and public spaces. If your Rotary holiday event is at a home or location that was not designed for events or parties, some of the below items may not be in place. Avoid some unexpected accidents that can be prevented with a little bit of pre-planning.

For instance, if you are celebrating an event outdoors...

  • Are there any special hazards at this location?
  • Is it ADA-accessible?
  • Are there sufficient restrooms for the number of guests expected?
If your event is indoors...

  • Is the building adequately maintained?
  • Are all areas accessible to those with disabilities?
  • Are there adequate exits in case of fire or emergency?
  • Are fire extinguishers and smoke detectors up-to-date and ready?

Please remind all guests that they have options for getting home, including carpooling with a designated driver, public transportation, taxis, and ride share services. Following these tips can assist your club in avoiding accidents, which can lower the potential exposure of your club should the unexpected happen.

Mark your calendars and join us on January 31, 2018 for a special webinar hosted by our District Insurance Chair Larry Potter. He is available via email and happy to assist clubs in answering any questions unlocking the mysteries of the RI Insurance polices.
